On Monday, September 10th, 2012 two robberies occurred at the Golden Bear ATM. The first victim was walking on lower Sproul Plaza at around 2:55 p.m. when she was approached by a male who identified himself as “Kody” and asked her if she would like to purchase a magazine subscription. The victim agreed to buy the subscription, however, when informed of the price she declined. The suspect and two accomplices threatened the victim. The suspect walked the victim to a nearby ATM in the Golden Bear Café. The victim withdrew cash which was taken by the suspect. The suspect and his companions were last seen walking towards the Sather Gate. The victim was not injured during the encounter.
The second robbery occurred at about 4:50 p.m. The victim, a 21 year old female student, was walking through Sproul Plaza near the intersection of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue when she was approached by a male. While standing in line the victim noticed the suspect talking to a male and female who seemed to be acquaintances. The suspect was last seen leaving the café.
