On Wednesday, December 8, 2010 a strong arm robbery and attempted robbery occurred on the south side near campus. At approximately 5:15 p.m. a woman, affiliation unknown, was on Channing Way just east of Fulton Street when she was approached by a group of male teens. One of the teens grabbed her cell phone and the group fled the scene running eastbound on Channing Way then southbound on Atherton Street. BPD detained three males matching the description of the suspects on the 2400 block of Dwight Way. They were positively identified by the victim and her property was found on one of the suspects. The victim was not injured during the encounter.
At 5:26 p.m. BPD received a report of a related attempted robbery on the 2200 block of Durant Avenue near Fulton Street. The victim was walking on Durant when he was approached by a group of male teens. The suspects pushed the victim to the ground and punched him in the face. The suspects punched and kicked the victim on the ground and one of them demanded his wallet. The group then fled the scene without the wallet. The three arrested on the 2400 block of Dwight Way were positively identified by the victim. The victim sustained minor injuries to his face, lower and upper back and the palms of his hands.
All three suspects were taken into custody by BPD.
The suspects arrested are described as:
Suspect #1 - Black Male Juvenile, 5'6", 140 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, black wool jacket and dark blue jeans.
Suspect #2 - Black Male Juvenile, 5'9", 150 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a dark brown jacket, gray striped sweater, dark jeans and black sneakers.
Suspect #3 - Black Male Juvenile, 5'10", 165 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a black jacket, black t-shirt and dark blue jeans.
