| Assault with a Deadly Weapon |
| UCPD crime report # 08-01082 |
On Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 7:16 p.m. UCPD received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon which had occurred approximately 45 minutes earlier at the northwest corner of People’s Park. A group of people were sitting on a park bench when the male suspect walked up to them and started verbally harassing them. The suspect then struck one of the group members, a non-affiliated 52 year old Black male, with a bag containing a large unopened can. The blow knocked the victim to the ground and the suspect began striking him with his fists and threatening him with a 2 x 4 he picked up. Witnesses intervened and the suspect left the scene. The suspect was last seen walking towards Haste Street. The victim suffered a head laceration and was transported to Alta Bates Hospital for treatment by BFD. UCPD Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, referred to by individuals in the Park as “Roger”.
The suspect was described as:
A Black male, mid to late 40s, 6’3” in height, wearing a grey Pendeleton jacket with red on it and baggy blue jeans, going by the name “Roger”.
