Armed Robbery (Suspect Arrested)

2500 Block Channing Way

November 9, 2006

On November 9, 2006 at 2:01 AM a UCPD Community Service Officer (CSO) was in the BearWALK van when he observed two women handing over their purses to a tall Black male on the 2500 block of Channing Way.  The male then left the scene, with the purses, walking south through the Anna Head parking lot.  The CSO followed the suspect, observing him discarding the purses into a dumpster.  The victims, using a near by blue light emergency phone, called UCPD to report the armed robbery and the CSO radioed the location of the suspect.  UCPD Officers responding to the scene observed the suspect near an underground garage.  The Officers stopped the suspect, whereupon he was positively identified by the victims, taken into custody and turned over to BPD.

The suspect arrested was identified as:

SMITH, Bahsson Carl, a 25 year old Black male, approximately 5’10” in height, wearing an army sweater, camouflage jacket and carrying a silver handgun.
