On Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 10:40 PM a UCPD Officer was flagged down in front of the Recreational Sports Facility by a victim of a battery and attempted robbery which had just occurred at that location on Bancroft Way.  The victim, a 29 year old Hispanic female, was walking westbound on Bancroft talking on her cell phone when she was approached by a White male who struck her on the side of her face and attempted to pull her purse off her shoulder.  The victim resisted and the suspect fled the scene eastbound on Bancroft and then northbound through Spieker Plaza into campus. The victim suffered minor injuries during the encounter and sought her own medical attention at Alta Bates.  UCPD searched the area, but was unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described by the victim as:

A White Male, approximately 30 years of age, 6’00” in height, with a thin build, blond hair, a thin beard (possibly unshaven), wearing a dark sweatshirt, dark pants and carrying a dark backpack.
