Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Bear's Lair Pub

August 23, 2006

On Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 1:48 AM UCPD responded to a report of a fight in progress at the entrance to the Bear’s Lair Pub located in the ASUC.  When UCPD Officers arrived the group had already fled the scene.  Witnesses reported that a group of 3-4 Black male juveniles tried to enter the Bear’s Lair after last call while employees were in the process of closing.  The group demanded entry and were refused.  The group began threatening a Bear’s Lair employee and one of the group members used his cell phone to call for additional assistance.  A few moments later a white pick-up arrived and another Black male juvenile joined the group.  At this point the suspect grabbed a nearby object and struck one of employees across the face.  The suspect and the other group members then fled the scene and were last observed running south through Sather Lane and then eastbound on Durant.  The victim suffered minor injuries.  The individual in the truck was later detained; however a search of the area did not produce the assault suspect or additional group members.

The witnesses described the suspect as:

A Black male, 15-18 years of age, 5’08”, with black hair, wearing an oversized gray t-shirt and blue jeans.
