Attempted Theft  (Suspect Arrested)

Barrows Hall

June 12, 2006

On Saturday, June 10th at approximately 3:40 PM, UCPD was dispatched to meet with a white male Cal student concerning the attempted theft of his laptop.  The student had been working in a room at Barrows Hall and had stepped out onto the patio adjacent to the room to take a break.  While standing on the patio he looked through a window and observed a black male adult entering the room he had just left.  The student saw the suspect close his laptop and walk out of the room.  The victim chased the suspect down the hall and out the east doors of Barrows Hall.  He caught up with him on the east side of Dwinelle and demanded that he give back the laptop.  The suspect told the victim he had bought the laptop for $20.00.  The victim then wrestled the laptop out of the arms of the suspect and the suspect fled the scene.  UCPD searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

At about 4:15 PM the victim again contacted UCPD to report that he had just seen the suspect walking southbound on Barrows Lane.  He observed the suspect proceeding up towards Hearst Gym.  UCPD responded to the gym and encountered and arrested the suspect.

The suspect arrested was identified as:

CLARK, Edward, a black male, 47 years old, medium build, with a goatee and shoulder length hair.
