Attempted Burglary  (Suspect Arrested)

May 26, 2006

On May 25, 2006, BPD informed UCPD that Justin Broughton was being sought for an attempted burglary which had occurred at around 6:50 AM that morning at a residence on Piedmont Ave.  BPD and UCPD officers began actively searching for the suspect.  At around 10:00 AM, that same day, a UCPD officer saw Broughton in front of 2424 Haste Street.  The officer detained Broughton and began to speak with him while waiting for assistance.  A UCPD bicycle officer arrived on scene and at that point they handcuffed the suspect and told him he was under arrest.  While the suspect was being searched the officers discovered 5 University keys in his possession.  BP took custody of the suspect and he was charged with attempted burglary and unlawful possession of university or state keys. 

The suspect arrested was identified as:

BROUGHTON, Justin, a white male, 22 years old, 5’10” tall, 185 lbs., brown hair and hazel eyes.
